About 60 citizens presented
Freiburg to our Sister City at the Freiburg Fair in
Madison from 26 August through 28 August 2005. The events ranged
from an official breakfast with the Mayor of Madison
David Cieslewicz and discussions with city officials about matters of
mutual concern to a highly successful Energy
Symposium with contributions from our city.
On the lighter side there was the Street Fair
at the top of State Street. Here Fasnet costumes
were on exhibition and alternatively the Freiburg
Brass Band sounded or the Freiburg Blue 6 Pack
Jazz Quartet jammed with local musicians. Furthermore the booth was
used to present Freiburg's tourist qualities to many citizens of Madison who
as an opener could taste and buy the wine of
our region.
One of the highlights were the concerts
of Julia Kirn, violinist, and
Helge Aurich, pianist. These young musicians
won the hearts of those who listened to their presentations. The Freiburg
Fair was accompanied by two exhibitions: Quilts
made in Freiburg and a Photo Exhibition: Faces of
Freiburg. A
German dinner
at a well known Madison Restaurant prepared by a Freiburg Chef closed the
Fair in a harmonious atmosphere.
We would like to thank all our sponsors
who helped with their contributions to finance the travel for the young
musicians.
Most important however was that we could
revive old friendships and make new friends in Madison with the help of the
Madison Freiburg
Sister City Committee. Our special thanks go to them who had all the
hard work to do before even the first guests had arrived.
